GCB Under-17 Inter-County Essequibo take title as final round match abandoned ….Under-17 squad to be known today

BY virtue of their shocking first round victory over Demerara, the Kemo Paul led Essequibo Under-17 team carted off the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Under-17 Inter-county title yesterday, after the GT&T Berbice versus Demerara clash was abandoned without a ball being bowled at the Everest Cricket Club ground.

The Essequibians who lost their second round matchup against the defending champions GT&T Berbice at the same venue last Saturday, ended on 8.5 points to take the top prize, with GT&T Berbice occupying the second position on 6.5 points while Demerara was third with 3.5 points.
GT&T Berbice and Demerara turned up at the Everest ground yesterday to contest the final round match, but could not do so, due to a soggy outfield which forced the organisers to abandon the contest, while the Demerara players were seen by Chronicle Sport having a practice session at the venue.
Meanwhile, GCB’s Chairman of the Junior Selection panel, Nazimul Drepaul and his two assistants in Otto Christian and Julian Moore were seen deliberating with National Under-17 coach Gavin Nedd, which was disclosed to be related to the Guyana team contesting the West Indies Cricket Board Under-17 tournament this year.
According to Drepaul, a 20 man squad will be selected and released by the GCB to the Media fraternity some time today. (Calvin Roberts)
