Sunich reaffirms commitment to sport with sponsorship of BVA competition

POPULAR sports enthusiast and proprietor of Trophy Stall in Bourda Market, Ramesh Sunich, has reaffirmed his commitment and continued support to sports in Guyana with the sponsorship of yet another tournament. Sunich, speaking to Chronicle Sport, said that because of his passion, commitment and love for sporting events and activities, he intends to continue lending support through his business establishment.
The businessman disclosed that he will be teaming up with the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) to sponsor a volleyball competition for teams in that county. The competition, which is set for June 23 and will be played on a round-robin basis, is expected to attract several teams.
The event will be held at the Albion Sports Complex Court and Port Mourant Training Centre (PMTC). Port Mourant, who are the country’s national champions, will be competing and a source close to the club disclosed that they will be fielding more than one team in the competition.
An official noted that patrons coming out can expect a very high standard of volleyball action, stressing that the standard of the sport in the county has improved tremendously.
“This will be a very high level of competition as all the teams will be going out to capture this very important Club title. I can assure the public that they can see action and competition at its best as all these teams have something to prove,” the source said.
Sunich declared that he intends to continue lending valuable support and assistance to several associations in an effort to continue providing an avenue for the continued development of youths.
“We at Trophy Stall are committed to that objective, because our business philosophy is to provide support to sporting organisations by sponsoring competitions,” he said.
He added, “We have consistently sponsored sporting competitions in many disciplines ranging from chess to horseracing and as you can see, we are currently partnering with the BVA for their Inter-club competition later this month. We believe that unless this is done, sport in Guyana will not develop, and this will not be good for our athletes and for our country.”
The other teams expected to compete are Port Mourant Jaguars, Albion Sports Complex, Union Renaissance Sports Club of No 55 Village, Falcons of Canje, Vikings of Blairmount and Three Doors Strikers of D’Edward.
An official pointed out that coming out of the competition the BVA’s senior squad will be selected; thus a number of players will be pressing hard to be included into that squad.
The competition will see both male and female teams compete, with the top three teams in each category to be rewarded with trophies and other incentives, while prizes for Best Spiker, Blocker, Server, Defence, Setter and Best Libero are up for grabs also.
