In an invited comment, following another intense training session at the Albion Sports Club, one of his daily routines, Bishoo said that while he was looking forward to playing in the tournament which can be compared to the Indian Premier League (IPL), he is also relishing the opportunity to bowl against his fellow Guyanese as well.
“As you know, home is always home, no matter what. But playing for Barbados in the CPL is an honour and at the same time an opportunity to also play in the tournament, so I will go out there and make the best use of it,” stated Bishoo.
He added, “Playing away from home, is always a tough task, but this is a competitive tournament. All you have to do is look at the quality of players that were drafted for the various franchises and that alone underlines the level of competitiveness the tournament is expected to have.
“Whether I am playing for Albion, Guyana, Barbados or even the West Indies is not the problem, the problem is remaining focused and fit to go out there and play the best cricket and at the same time be competitive for your team. That’s why I find myself at the Albion ground for my daily training routine, when I am not playing cricket.”
Asked what his feelings would be like, when the Guyana franchise will be taking on his adopted team, Bishoo stated with a slight chuckle, “This is cricket and when you go out there, it is like a battle and I see myself as a warrior. Yes, we are friends off the field of play, but on it, is a different story.
Playing against my fellow Guyanese is an opportunity I would relish as well. For me it would be same as when I am playing an Inter-county game for Berbice or even club match for Albion, minus the international names who will be present in their lineup, along with the Regional ones so, yes, I will relish the opportunity of playing against them in the CPL. In fact, I can hardly wait for that game.”
The 2011 International Cricket Council (ICC) Emerging Player-of-the-Year, said his main focus is to get back the opportunity to wear the maroon cap once again, something he has thought long and hard about, since he was discarded from the West Indies team last year.
He last played for the Regional side last year in their Test series against Australia, but has never stopped training since given the axe following a low key performance. That did not deter him.
“I try not to worry too much about me not playing for the West Indies. Whatever God has in store for me, will be given to me. But in the meantime, I have been training hard whenever I get the time to do so, since I feel my recall to the West Indies team is right around the corner and this time I will grab it with both hands,” assured Bishoo.
For now, the 27-year-old right hand leg-spinner, who has taken 40 wickets from the 11 Test matches he hss played at an average of 39.55, is finding it difficult to contain his excitement about playing in the upcoming tournament.
“Is like what the Lil Rick song says, ‘I can’t wait to play in the CPL. I am ready physically and mentally for it, since I feel to myself that a good performance in the CPL will help me regain a place in the West Indies team once again.”
