C&H Engineering & Construction Company Inc has reportedly been awarded the approximately $12.5M Moco Moco Bridge reconstruction contract in Region 9’s Deep South Rupununi, and work is expected to begin this week, a source close to the Works Services Group of the Public Works Ministry told the Guyana Chronicle. The contractor has already transported some steel to the work site. Other materials are soon to follow, and the work is expected to be completed within six weeks of commencement.
The overland travel network for residents of the Deep South Rupununi was disrupted after a hauler transporting a D4 Bulldozer belonging to V. Dalip Engineering Construction Company caused the Moco Moco Bridge to collapse a few weeks ago, forcing creation of new routes to circumvent this problem, even as the prolonged rainfall deprived commuters of the opportunity to cross the creek bed by vehicle.
This newspaper sought from chairman of the Rupununi Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Daniel Gaji, and Regional Executive Officer, Mrs. Claire Singh, comment on this new development, but neither person was available yesterday to offer a comment. (Mark Bradford)
