West Demerara lift DCB Inter-Association U-17 title : … DCB names squad for Inter-County U-17

HAVING won their first two matches over tournament favourites Georgetown and East Coast respectively, and with rain washing out the third match yesterday, West Demerara Under-17 team emulated their Under-19 counterparts, by lifting the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Inter-Association U-17 title yesterday.
On Saturday, the West Demerara lineup, led by Travis Persaud and including Ronaldo Renee, defeated Georgetown by 21 runs at the Everest Cricket Club ground, before retuning to the same venue the following day to humiliate East Coast by 73 runs. Their final match against East Bank which was to be played yesterday at the Everest ground, along with Georgetown’s must-win contest against East Coast at the Police Sports Club ground, was abandoned without a ball being bowled, due to heavy showers overnight and continuous downpours during the day.
Both East Coast and Georgetown recorded victories over the hapless East Bank lineup, with Georgetown doing so on Friday, the opening day of the tournament at Everest, while East Coast followed suit the following day at the PSC ground, even though East Bank had a better showing in the batting department.
Meanwhile, the DCB announced their team for the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Inter-County Under-17 competition which is set to commence this Friday.
As was expected, Travis and Narendra Persaud, Renee, Clitus Johnson, Sherfane Rutherford, Carlton Jacques, Tevin Imloch, Daniel Basdeo and Devendra Chunilall, all found favour with the DCB’s Junior selection committee, headed by Nazim Drepaul.
The team reads: Travis Persaud (captain), Tevin Imloch (vice-captain), Ronaldo Renee, Chetnarine Pooran, Sherfane Rutherford, Clitus Johnson, Devendra Chunilall, Navindra Seeraj, Navendra Persaud, Keshram Seyhodan, Mark Hamilton, Daniel Basdeo, Carlton Jacques, and Shamar Graham.
The standby players are Samuel McKenzie, Sahadeo Ramkellawan, Nioli Reddy, Steven Mangal, Dextroy Williams, and Joshua Ram, with Robert Adonis being tasked with the managerial duties and the hard-working and consistent Gavin Nedd as coach. (Calvin Roberts)
