Berbice top student proud of NGSA achievement

IT was her dream to succeed, and she made it a reality by becoming the top student of Region 6 at the National Grade Six Assessment 2013. Renee Bisnauth of Cropper Primary School at Albion, Corentyne gained 540 marks to secure the ninth spot among the 16,811 students who sat the NGSA in Guyana.

Her father, high school teacher Rudranauth Bisnauth, told the Guyana Chronicle he is proud of his daughter, and was always confident she would have gained a spot among the top 30 in the country. According to the proud father, Renee started serious studies only one month before the NGSA, but this was not a major concern for him because she was always known to be a top performer in class.

Renee Bisnauth had copped the first place at the National Spelling ‘B’ Competition in 2011, and had gone on to represent Guyana in St. Kitts, where she placed fourth.

The Bisnauth family have expressed eternal gratitude to retired Headmaster Leroy King, who took a special interest in the academic development of Renee, and provided her with past exam papers to enable her understanding of what to expect at NGSA.

“I also attended lessons for one hour each day, which was given free of charge by my class teacher, where we would revise all the work that we did during regular school time,” she noted.

The top student also mentioned that during the last month of preparations for the exams, she got up at 5.30 a.m. each day, and studied for one hour; while, in the evenings, she did her assignments.

One of the first persons to learn of her achievement was her mother, Dianne, who noted that at 14:15 hrs on Friday, the Bisnauth family learnt of the results via the Internet.
“I am proud of my daughter’s achievement!” the woman exclaimed.

Academic success is nothing strange to the Bisnauth family. Last year, Renee’s sister had placed among the top four students in Region 6, and two years earlier, her eldest sister had gained six distinctions at the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.

Even though Renee gained a place at Queen’s College, her parents will not be sending her to the Georgetown-based institution. The family is yet to decide whether she would attend the Berbice High School in New Amsterdam, or the J.C. Chandisingh School on the Corentyne. The Corentyne lass is yet to decide on what career she wants to pursue in the world of work.

Joining Renee Bisnauth among the top performers in Region 6 are: Kadeem Lewis of Alness Primary with 533 marks; Ebonie McNeil of School of the Nations in Berbice with 532 marks; Melisa Rama of Crabwood Creek Priamry with 531 marks; Tejesh Goberdhan of Cropper Primary with 528 marks; Kiana Samuels of St. Therese’s Primary with 526 marks; Shanice Henry of Edinburgh Primary with 525 marks; Asaf Ali of Tain Primary with 525 marks; Jenise Hinds of St. Therese’s Primary with 525 marks; Kesnel Johnson of School of the Nations in Berbice with 523 marks, and Yugeeta Kumar of Crawood Creek Primary with 523 marks.
