The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development will re-advertise for the positions of the Town Clerk and City Treasurer at the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC), after it was found that persons who applied for the posts lack the relevant experience and qualification.

Minister in the Ministry, Norman Whittaker, during a press conference at the ministry’s Kingston office yesterday, said that the panel that interviewed the applicants for senior positions at the M&CC did make some recommendations with respect to the positions of Solid Waste Director and City Engineer.
He said that the ministry, with full consensus from the M&CC has since identified two individuals to fill these positions, and has dispatched letters to the two persons in this regard.
The minister said, however, with respect to the Town Clerk and City Treasurer, it was the consensus that these positions must be re-advertised because the applicants interviewed did not possess the ‘experience, skills and knowledge’ required for the positions.
The Town Clerk, City Treasurer, and City Engineer are among four employees that were in the latter part of 2012 sent on leave and subsequently fired, following an inquiry into the functioning of City Hall which revealed financial improprieties on the part of these staffers.
