Prime Minister to take part in laptop distribution in Region 4

PRIME Minister Samuel Hinds is expected to assist with the distribution of laptops under the One Laptop Per Family (OLPF) programme when the third round of distribution in Region 4 (Demerara/Mahaica) concludes this Saturday.

altThis was disclosed via telephone yesterday by OLPF Public Relations Officer Dario Mcklmon, who said that the PM will be on site for the final two days of distribution.
The OLPF project has been, over the past two weeks, distributing laptops to approved applicants in Region 4.
According to the PRO, by the end of this exercise, some 5,000 more laptops would be added to the 4,353 already in the hands of Region 4 applicants.
Mcklmon related that the OLPF distribution has gone very well in the region, with a satisfactory response from applicants. He also pointed out that the laptop recipients were enthusiastic to participate in the training sessions.
He further explained that distribution is done in rounds, one region at a time. However, he noted that there have been instances when distribution was done in more than one region simultaneously.
Mcklmon related that following the conclusion of the current round of distribution in Region 4, the OLPF programme  will move on to another round in another region, though he was unable to say at the time which  region would be next.
The government’s OLPF programme was significantly strengthened when, in March, it received a grant of 28,145 laptops valued at US$8M from the Government of China.
