Twenty-one-year-old Melissa Hamilton (no address given) was yesterday granted $100,000 bail when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry to answer an allegation that between May 23 and 30, she stole from Electronic City one 32-gigabyte 5th generation Apple iPod valued $85,200.
Police Sergeant Vernetta Pindar, prosecuting, told the court that the defendant is gainfully employed as the Sales Manager at Electronic City on Sheriff Street. She further stated that on May 23, at about 10:00hrs, the iPod was placed in the showcase but subsequent checks revealed that the article was missing.
It was later observed from the surveillance camera that the defendant took the iPod and did not return it. A search was then conducted at the defendant’s home where the iPod was recovered.
This 21-year-old woman was represented by two attorneys, Mr. Paul Fung-a-Fat and Mr. James Bond.
According to Mr. Bond, his client had never met with such an incident before. He added that the surveillance camera merely showed that customers had come into the store to check the iPod and all his client did was to show it to them.
The case was put off for today.
