Neil Primus launches ‘Snatches of Life’

GUYANESE author and Chronicle writer, Neil Primus last Friday evening,at the Brickdam Cathedral Life Centre,  launched his self-published book “Snatches of Life: A collection of stories”.

Speaking at the simple launching ceremony, Primus stated that he never thought he would one day be standing before an audience as a published writer, as he recalled the challenges he encountered on his journey to get his work published.
He described this journey as one that has been long and challenging, noting that it was particularly difficult to find a publisher.
Primus said that with few exceptions the business community in Guyana does not show much interest in upcoming Guyanese writers. However, he said that he did receive some help from Giftland Office Max, John Fernandes Limited and his church, for which he is very grateful.
He further noted that after approaching numerous publishers and being told he would have to wait a number of years, he decided on self-publishing. He pointed out that this was not easy, but it was something important to him.
Primus noted that he has been fond of writing from a young age, though he did not take it seriously at first. He mentioned a few people who have helped him develop his passion over the years, persons such as Francis Quamina Farrier and Pitamber Persaud, among others.

He also highlighted the fact that he was given an opportunity to develop his writing significantly when he got a job with the Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL) to write feature stories for the Sunday edition.
He said that while he wrote on a number of areas for the Chronicle, he was requested to write folklore-based stories on a regular basis.
At Friday’s launching ceremony, readings from “Snatches of Life” were done by Primus’ nieces, Patricia and Shaneeza, much to the enjoyment of those in attendance.
Copies of the book are to be donated to the Georgetown Public Library, the New Amsterdam Public Library and the University of Guyana Library.
The book is also on sale at local bookstores or it can be ordered online at www.xlibris.com, www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com.
