Chinese national killed in Mandela Avenue accident… had been battered and robbed by gunmen the night before

AFTER a terrifying night of being robbed and battered by three gunmen, a Chinese national was fatally struck down yesterday afternoon by a taxi on Mandela Avenue while she was returning home to her family.

Feng Xue Fang, 42, of 195 Mandela Avenue, was crossing the road when the car slammed into her. The accident occurred obliquely opposite her home. Residents nearby said that the woman was halfway across the road when the speeding Green Ice taxi, HC 2408, which was headed west along Mandela Avenue, collided with Fang. “The car slam into her and she pitched in the air and then it drag her till deh,” one woman stated.  Fang’s body was dragged approximately 60 feet from where she was first struck.
When the Guyana Chronicle arrived at the scene, the woman’s crumpled body was covered with a sheet  and part of her crushed head was exposed.
Her husband stood frozen at scene staring at one of her slippers. Attempts made to speak to him were futile since he couldn’t understand English. All he said was “she is my wife…”
Fang’s nephew told this newspaper that late last night three armed men had forced their way into the woman’s home and brutally assaulted her and his mother with blows to their heads. He said that yesterday they were in the house and didn’t know that Fang had left. “I didn’t see the accident, but all I heard was my aunt pass away and get hit in an accident. My other aunt start crying and told me what happen,” he said.
The driver of the vehicle was taken into police custody. Fang leaves to mourn her two children and her husband.
