Suspects in custody for two weekend murders

THE suspect in the murder of Shawn Nelson, 39, of Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge, is in Police custody and has been confronted with video footage from a surveillance camera.

But Police are awaiting a post-mortem before the man, identified as a well known member of the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), is charged later this week.
The alleged shooter surrendered to Police after having fled the scene of the shooting in a motor car that he, subsequently, crashed into a utility pole.
Reports about the homicide said, about 06:30 hrs on Sunday, Nelson, who was employed at Eagles Bar on Robb Street was involved in an argument with a man in Orange Walk, Bourda, also in Georgetown, when he was shot in his head.
The wounded man was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he succumbed.
Meanwhile, the two women suspects in the fatal stabbing of ex-policeman Adrian Richmond at a dog fighting venue on Sunday are also being held.
Police said Richmond, 31, of Atlantic Ville, was stabbed about 18:30 hrs at Industry Front Access Road, also on the East Coast of Demerara.
Investigations have, so far, ascertained that he became involved in an argument with three men over the results of a dog fight and he was wounded with an ice-pick.
He, too, later died at the GPH.
