DIRECTOR General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Mr. Zulfikar Mohammed has said investigations are still ongoing into the April 13 aircraft crash, at Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara, which left two people dead and a woman homeless.
He told the Guyana Chronicle, in a telephone interview, that his office is continuing to question persons while awaiting the report from the United States (U.S.) National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) on the plane’s engines which were sent to that agency for examination.
Mohammed said a final decision is to be made, shortly, in relation to insurance on the carrier and compensation for the damaged property at Sparendaam.
Those killed in the accident are Nick Dmitriev, 54, a survey technician and Pierre Angiel, 71, the pilot and owner of the aircraft, who were in Guyana to do aerial surveys and digital mapping for the Amalia Falls Hydroproject.
The incident left the residents of Sparendaam Housing Scheme traumatised as it was the first time in history that an aircraft had crashed into a local inhabited community.
The homes of Florence Tyndall and Michelle Belle were destroyed and scorched, respectively. (M. Bradford)
