Setting the stage for tonight’s ceremony at the National Park

As Guyana gets ready to celebrate its 47th Independence Anniversary at the National Park, all systems are being put in place for this historic event which will commence at 19:30hrs today at the National Park in Georgetown.

altUnder the direction of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport, last night artistes from the Burrowes School of Art were busy painting the stage backdrop, while dancers were in rehearsal, colourfully costumed.
This year’s event will see performances from the Amerindian Dance Troupe, the National Steel Orchestra, X Factor Dance Group, Indian and African drumming, the National Choir and the Joint Guyana Defence and Police Force bands.
Bishops’ High School student John Edghill will say the prayer for the nation, as Larissa Wiltshire of Queen’s College will recite the national pledge.alt
Minister Frank Anthony is expected to introduce President Donald Ramotar who will deliver his second Independence address to the nation.
The ceremony will come to a close after the hoisting of the Golden Arrowhead around midnight.
