FORTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD Noel Isaacs, a diver of an established mining company operating at Kurupung Bottom in the Mazaruni area of Region 7, Cuyuni/Mazaruni, died by drowning on Tuesday.
He was of Amerindian descent, according to Captain Orlando Charles, Chief Manager/Director of Flight of Hope, a non-profit organisation geared at helping hinterland communities, who said he was in the area when it was reported that the man had just died. Charles noted that none of the man’s family members was around and so he transported the body, free of cost, to Georgetown. He said that upon his arrival at the Ogle Airport, he tried to make contact with the Minister of Amerindian Affairs, but was unsuccessful. He then tried explaining the situation to an official at the Georgetown Public Hospital, but was told that the Lyken Funeral Home usually dealt with such matters, and that he should also contact the police.
Employees of the Lyken Funeral Home collected the dead man’s body later that night, and investigations into the diver’s death are continuing.
