Policeman in duo refused bail on wounding charges

RYAN Hunt, 27, of Lot 18 Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara and Kester Golding, of Number Four Village, West Coast Berbice, were refused bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday, on charges of unlawful and malicious wounding.

They both pleaded not guilty, individually, to the offence, particulars of which alleged that, on Sunday, February 10, at Imbaimadai Landing, Upper Mazaruni River, Essequibo, they unlawfully and maliciously wounded Delron Yarrick.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, successfully objected to the grant of pre-trial freedom for the duo, on the ground that the defendant Hunt is a serving member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and, if granted, he would, likely, interfere with the witnesses.
Defence counsel, Kendecia Rodney said Hunt has been a serving policeman for the past four years and has fully cooperated during the investigations of the matter.
The case was adjourned until May 27.
