ATTORNEY General (AG) and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mr. Anil Nandlall has assured that the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, West Coast Demerara, will be functional again by this August.
He explained that the original contractor for the project was found guilty of breaching the contract and it was revoked.
Consequently, work on the building was suspended for quite some time and that builder is being sued for his actions.
Nandlall added that remedial works have started and are expected to finish soon.
He said the judicial system is growing at a fast pace but the government is bent on ensuring that it continues in a proper manner.
The AG said the construction had been held up on his orders but he is asking litigants from surrounding affected communities to be patient as there is no need not to believe in the system.
It has been about two years since the rebuilding of the Leonora Court began and it is still not finished, causing persons in the jurisdiction to question how much longer they will have to travel to Vreed-en-Hoop for cases that should be dealt with at Leonora.
