CRIME Chief Seelall Persaud said, yesterday, that the main suspect in the killing of Police Corporal Romain Cleto has been identified and is being sought for questioning.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) said all efforts are being made to apprehend the wanted man, who remains at large, but it is just a matter of time before he is caught.
Persaud said, since the April 27 murder, three suspects were arrested but later released.
Cleto was shot dead while on patrol duty, in Avenue of the Republic near the Plaisance Bus Park, in front the Bank of Baroda, with other ranks.
He had approached a motor vehicle which they had been trailing through a city street but, as the policemen got close, a gunman opened fire on Cleto with what was described as a high-powered weapon.
The shooter then sped away in the car after the 18:40 hrs occurrence.
While Cleto, 25, a father of one, was fatally shot, Constable Randy Daly was wounded on his left arm and Constable Anil Persaud was injured by shattered windscreen glass.
The Crime Chief reported that Police recovered two sets of spent shells at the shooting scene, comprising 7.62 and 9mm which were more than a handful.
