MAGISTRATE Fabayo Azore, yesterday, put Dharampaul Singh, 28, on $150,000 bail when he appeared in court, charged with unlawful wounding.
The accused, of Lot 49 First Street, Houston, East Bank Demerara, faced an indictable charge which said, on May 12, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Erishwar Venkasammy.
Police Corporal Renetta Bentham, prosecuting, stated that Venkasammy was driving motor car PPP 5841 in the Diamond Housing Scheme, also on the East Bank of Demerara, while Singh was at the wheel of a blue CRV, proceeding in the same direction.
The prosecutor said, as the two vehicles approached the traffic lights, Singh stopped suddenly causing problems for Venkasammy.
Singh and a woman exited the car and started using a series of expletives and Venkasammy was dealt several cuffs to his body and, eventually, stabbed to his abdomen, said the prosecutor, as he related the case of road rage.
The prosecutor objected to pre-trial freedom for Singh, on the grounds that the offence is serious and prevalent and it is possible he would interfere with Venkasammy once released.
However, the objection was overruled and Singh is to be back in court on May 28. Meanwhile, he was ordered to lodge his travel documents with the authorities.
