Lennox Braithwaite-lone shooting stars for Caribbean on first day

GUYANA’s Lennox Braithwaite was the lone shooting star for the Caribbean as Great Britain shooters dominated the opening day of the individual competition at the West Indies fullbore shooting championships, Saturday, at Paragon ranges in Barbados.
The defending regional champion shot a perfect score at the 300 and 500 yard ranges recording 125 points out of a possible 125 with 13 Vs as Caribbean riflemen played second fiddle against the British and Canadian shooters.

Great Britain’s  David Luckman  shot 125 points  with 20 Vs to take a slim lead over his compatriot Gareth Morris who shot 125.19.
Also in the 125 bracket were Great Britain’s Jonathan Underwood  with 127.17 and   Jane Messer with 125.15  and Canadian Kim O’Loghlen with 124.14.

Trinidad and Tobago’s veteran Norris Gomez dropped one point to finish with 124.9 while National captain Mahendra Persaud and Michael Perez of Trinidad and Tobago shot 120.11 and 121.10 respectively.
National Vice Captain Dylan Fields shot 119.8 and ‘O’ Class shooter Peter Persaud had a respectable 117.5.
Jamaica’s Denis Lee 120.9; Barbadian Marlon King 119.9, and Antigua and Barbuda’s Andrew Perry 117.6 were the other Caribbean efforts.
Guyanese Paul Slowe, Captain of the West Indies team for the Australian Cup match slated for later this week, held a meeting with the regional shooters to outline criteria for the selection of the West Indies team.
The shooters were back in action yesterday competing at 300 and 600 yards on the second day of individual competition; the third and final day is today before the team matches for the regional short and long range titles.
Defending champions Guyana will come up against Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and Antigua and Barbuda for regional supremacy.
Meanwhile, Guyana’s Leo Romalho, who came down with the flu, was rested from the individual and will be considered for the team matches once fit.
