Knight Riders shock Bangalore, Watson stars for Royals

KOLKATA Knight Riders claimed only their sixth win of the IPL season as they beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by five wickets yesterday.

Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets as the Knight Riders restricted Bangalore to 115-9.
And Jacques Kallis then did the lions’ share of the work in the run chase on a difficult pitch, scoring 41 from 45 balls before being caught by Moises Henriques off Abhimanyu Mithun.
It made no difference, however, with Rajat Bhatia and Ryan ten Doeschate finishing off an impressive win with four balls left to dent Bangalore’s hopes of winning the IPL title.
In the day’s other match the Rajasthtan Royals thrashed Chennai Super Kings, with Stuart Binney clobbering a six off the last ball to complete a hugely impressive run chase.
Super Kings had been restricted to 141-4 as only Dwayne Bravo really got to grips with the Royals’ bowling with his quickfire 23 from 11 balls at the end of the innings.
The Royals’ run chase got off to a terrible start as three of the first four batsmen failed to reach double figures, with Rahul Dravid’s 22 from 28 balls failing to do much.
But then Shane Watson and Stuart Binny turned the match on its head, Watson blasted 70 from 34 balls before falling to Bravo, while Binny hit a six to score the winning runs and finish on 41 from 23 balls, bringing the Royals to 144-5 with 17 balls left.
