THE East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital observed International Nurses Day on Friday, May 10, by honouring outstanding staffers at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre with tokens for their service to the health sector. “Nurses Week”, being observed under the theme “Closing the Gap with Millennium Development Goals 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2,1”, commenced on May 6 and will conclude today.
Under the theme “One profession, one voice, one vision, one journey towards a healthier profession”, the observances saw those from a Cuban group giving service at the institution for the past three years also being honoured with their local colleagues for their outstanding contributions.
Those present at the function yesterday included Health Minister Dr. Bheri Ramsaran and Chief Nurse Ms. Termattie Barker, who both noted that the Guyana Government has made training a top priority, and has been equipping nurses with the necessary tools and skills to provide quality and improved health care for Guyanese.
They agreed that efforts to train are focused on further expansion and consolidation of human resource skills at various levels, including for doctors, Medexes, professional nurses, community health workers, pharmacy and dental assistants, community dental therapists, Dentexes and rehabilitation practitioners.
