Over Police objection… Driver in Wednesday fatal accident granted $300,000 bail

DEVANAND Sewnarine, 34, of Lot 270 Caneville, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry, yesterday, charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Particulars of the offence said that, on Wednesday, May 8, at Soesdyke, he drove motor car PRR 4157 resulting in the death of Albert Yarris, 42, of Lot 42 Hyde Park, Timehri.
Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman told the Court the accused was proceeding South on Madewini Public Road, also on East Bank Demerara, when he stopped the vehicle on one side to turn to another.
At the time, Yarris was riding a bicycle and the driver of a pick-up stopped to allow him to pass but the accused, who was going at great speed lost control and struck the cyclist from behind before his vehicle landed in a nearby trench.
Sewnarine was granted $300,000 bail, inspite of police objection, and the case was transferred to Providence Court.
