THE INNER circuit of the National Park is the venue for tomorrow’s second annual PowerAde 11-race cycling programme which is being organised by national coach Hassan Mohamed and is being held in memory of the late president of the Guyana Cycling Federation and the Kaieteur Cycle Club, Ulric Pollydore.
Pollydore is also the father of national cyclist, Godfrey Pollydore, who is currently campaigning overseas.
The 11-race programme will pedal off at 09:00hrs and is expected to conclude at 13:00hrs with the feature 35-lap School Boys and Invitational race, which will feature all the leading senior riders and upcoming junior cyclists.
The experienced Robin Persaud, who won the main event last year, will face a stiff challenge to retain the title this year, having won the 2012 edition in a time of 1h.17min:56secs.
Among Persaud’s rivals are Alonzo Greaves, Marlon Williams, Enzo Matthews, Junior Niles and Albert Philander, Warren ‘40’ McKay, with Niles set to defend the Veterans’ title, while Mario King will do so in the Juvenile category.
Other races planned for the day include the 12-14 Boys and Girls, Veterans, Mountain Bikes and BMX Open, 6-9, 9-12 and 12-14.
The race is being sponsored exclusively by Banks DIH Limited through its PowerAde brand of energy drink and Outdoor Events Manager of the company, Mortimer Stewart, will assist in the distribution of prizes at the conclusion of the event.
