THE Guyana Police Force said it has arrested a suspect in a U.S. visa scam being run by persons posing as U.S. embassy officials.
The Police said that, following investigations into reports received, on Thursday, the suspect was arrested at Triumph village, East Coast Demerara. He had in his possession the travel document and monies collected from a victim of the visa scam. According to the Police, persons posing as employees of the U.S. Embassy in Georgetown, are approaching unsuspecting individuals purporting to be able to obtain visas for them. The agreed on monies and travel document are later handed over by the victim who subsequently finds out that he/she has been conned.
The suspect is in police custody.
