Canter truck owner, Mr. Narine, is blaming the T&HD Essequibo ferry for deliberately leaving behind his truck, which was laden with some seven hundred pounds of snapper and fish glue on Monday evening at Parika, Region 3. He stated that he was transporting the cargo of fish on ice which is his property to the Essequibo Coast from Georgetown.
According to Narine, he reached Parika stelling some three hours before the scheduled departure of the ferry and spoke to an officer in the Transport and Harbour Department Office at Parika stelling about his Canter truck and the cargo of fish that was on ice, and the need for the cargo to cross with the evening ferry.
Narine said, however, to his surprise his Canter truck with the fish was left off the ferry outside the stelling. According to the owner, his vehicle reached the Essequibo Coast on Tuesday at around 10:00 am.
He said the cargo of snapper was already showing signs of spoilage because there was no ice to keep it fresh while the truck was left at Parika overnight. Narine said his losses will amount to thousands of dollars because of the negligence of officers at the Parika stelling. (Rajendra Prabhulall in Essequibo)
