TWENTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD Ganesh Anthony Persaud called Max, of Lot 5 Strand, New Amsterdam, died after he was, allegedly, knocked off his CBR motorbike on Friday, April 5 last.
However, Government Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh told the Guyana Chronicle that the cause of death was a broken spine and severed blood vessels that sealed the fate of Persaud, the second child of his parents to have succumbed to such injuries within months.
His older brother, Jarvis De Freitas, 28, was killed in an accident at Sheet Anchor, East Canje, also in Berbice, on September 13, 2012. It was alleged that he was drag-racing with another biker.
Consequent to that tragedy, on February 14 last, one other brother, Lakeram Persaud was riding home on his motorbike when, in the vicinity of New Amsterdam Hospital, he was involved in an accident and was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
He has since been discharged but his widowed mother, Jean Persaud, has made a public appeal to raise US$7,000, to offset medical expenses for him in Trinidad.
But Ganesh Persaud was not satisfied to wait for public-spirited citizens to donate to his sibling’s medical bill. He took the initiative to organise a barbecue and was in the process of finalising the arrangements when he met his demise, along the Canefield Public Road, East Canje.
He was riding his CBR, CF 8751, which had previously belonged to his late brother, Jarvis DeFreitas.
An eyewitness recalled seeing the young man riding along with another person when a white Toyota 212 hire car made a sudden U-Turn in front him resulting in a collision.
Persaud, who was cremated at the Reliance Crematorium, leaves to mourn his mother, Jean and seven siblings, amongst other relatives and friends.
