Uncle gets 18 months imprisonment for wounding niece

IAN Gibson, of Lot 65 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to an unlawful wounding charge before Magistrate Judy Latchman, yesterday.

He denied that, on Sunday, April 21, he unlawfully wounded his niece, Keisha Gibson but, eventually, he was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment on conviction.
Police Corporal Jomo Nichols, prosecuting, said the uncle and niece share the same residence and, that day, they had a misunderstanding over clothes in a bucket, resulting in the defendant cuffing and kicking her in the head.
In his narrative, the defendant said it was four days since his niece soaked down some clothes to wash and there was no other bucket available, as they were all filled. He said, when the water pressure is low, the small children have to fetch up water to flush the toilet.
The defendant claimed his other niece hit him and her brother handed her a weapon so he held her by her hair and used his knee to strike her and he saw some blood.
