Two charged with robbing driver of taxi, phones

TWENTY-EIGHT years old Jimmy Rawlins and Daniel Mohammed 24 (no addresses given) appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson on Monday, facing indictable armed robbery charges.

Particulars of one offence said, on Wednesday, April 17, at Meadow Bank, Georgetown, together armed with a gun, they robbed Raymond Hooper of two cellular phones valued $24,000 and $60,000 cash.
They are also accused of robbing the same virtual complainant of one Toyota Carina, HB 6486, worth $2,300,000, property of Orin Kitt.
Police Corporal Renetta Bentham, prosecuting, told the Court that Hooper was working taxi service outside Demico House when he was hired by a woman to go to Meadow Bank.
But, on arriving at the destination, Hooper was robbed by four gunmen, one of whom dealt him a few lashes about his body before he was relieved of the articles mentioned, tied up and left on a nearby wharf until he was found by a passerby.
The case was transferred to Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, for April 30 and the accused were remanded to prison until then.
