DEXTROY Mark Brimo, 38, of Lot 167 Curtis Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, has been charged with drug trafficking.
He appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday but pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on Monday, April 22, he was in possession of 60 grammes cannabis (marijuana) for the purpose.
Police Corporal Jomo Nichols, prosecuting, said, that day, ranks from the Narcotics Branch, acting on information received, conducted a search at his home while he was present and the substance was discovered.
The prosecutor said the defendant was previously convicted of a similar offence.
Brimo told the Court he is an asthma patient and smokes the narcotic to help with his sickness.
The magistrate asked the defendant: “Have you ever visited the doctor?” Brimo replied that, since he started using the narcotic, his ailment eased. The case was adjourned and transferred to Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for re-assignment.
Meantime, Brimo was remanded to prison, until April 29.
