At Demerara Assizes… Confession admitted in continuing murder case

A CONFESSION to the police, in the Enterprise murder case was admitted in evidence yesterday at the trial of Ryan Bacchus alias ‘Rattie’.

The caution statement was tendered by the Prosecution, following a voir dire (trial within a trial) concluded last week by Justice Navindra Singh in the absence of the jury at the Demerara Assizes.
State Counsel Renita Singh and Rhondel Weever are prosecuting Bacchus, who is indicted for the unlawful killing of Lakeram Mc Kenzie nicknamed ‘Rambo’ on December 5, 2006.
According to the confession, the accused told the Police that, about one week before the victim was shot, at his home, the prisoner (he Bacchus) and others went to the Paradise Sea Dam, by Laurie Lewis area, where they planned to rob Mc Kenzie who lived at Enterprise.
The attestation also revealed that the accused and his companions (accomplices) in crime had worked with the deceased, transporting cocaine, and Rambo still owed them some money.
Defence Counsel Ganesh Hera is appearing in the continuing case.
