Ashmin’s security guards refused bail on larceny charges

TWO security guards employed at Ashmin’s Trading, High and Hadfield Streets, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday, charged with simple larceny.

Leon John, 31, of Lot 224 Seventh Street, Success, East Coast Demerara and Ezrick Ross (no address given) both pleaded not guilty to the individual charges.
Particulars of the offence said, on Thursday, April 18, they stole two packs of ‘Huggies’ pampers, one 900 grammes tin of Fernleaf milk powder, 17 packets of Fernleaf milk powder, 52 boxes of Pine Hill juice, one bottle 15 year old El Dorado rum, one bottle 12 year old El Dorado rum, one bottle cream liqueur, one degree deodorant, three X-body spray, 1 tin Nestum and one tool kit, making a total loss of $78,845 to Lennox John.
Police Corporal Jomo Nichols, prosecuting, did not object to it and Defence Counsel Paul Fung-a-Fat requested reasonable surety but the magistrate refused the defendants pre-trial freedom and remanded them to prison until May 7.
