Cops say speeding and DUI driving contributed to two-vehicle smash-up at Malgre Tout – miraculously no deaths or severe injuries

MIRACULOUSLY, no one was severely injured or killed during a two-vehicle smash-up at Malgre Tout, West Bank Demerara, early yesterday morning.

At the scene a license plate bearing the number PJJ 2340 was found a short distance from the mangled car, which is beyond repair.
Police at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, said that while it was a massive two-vehicle smash-up no one was killed. The other vehicle was taken away from the scene during the early hours of Monday morning.
The police added that the occupants of both vehicles escaped with minor injuries, and fortunately no one was killed.
Moreover, the police related that speeding and drinking and driving were the major causative factors in the accident which left several injured.
Meanwhile, Police Traffic Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown yesterday said that for this year they have recorded 31 road accidents with 34 deaths while for the corresponding period last year they had 27 road accidents with 28 deaths.

Over the weekend a Brazilian national became the latest road fatality after the All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) he was travelling in collided with a truck which was proceeding in the opposite direction on Saturday at Frenchman, Siparuni.
Police said at about 11:00 hrs on April 20, 2013, a motor lorry and an unregistered ATV, travelling in opposite directions, collided on a turn along the trail at Frenchman, Siparuni.
Two Brazilian nationals, driver Gerald Rusino, 37, and pillion rider Dennis Perries, 37, who were on the ATV, received injuries. However, Perries subsequently succumbed to his injuries while Rusino has been admitted to the Mackenzie Hospital.

Investigations are in progress.
And last week a Canter truck toppled at Walton Hall, Essequibo as mourners were going to a funeral and one person died while more than a dozen were injured.
