Jadeja powers Chennai to win, RCB maintain home streak

RAVINDRA Jadeja slogged the Chennai Super Kings to an Indian Premier League win over the Kolkata Knight Riders. Jadeja sealed the win with a six over deep midwicket with five balls remaining after hosts Kolkata scored 119-9 off their 20 overs having won the toss.
“It was crucial for us to win this game,” Jadeja, who scored 36 off just 14 balls, said. “There was not enough time to think when I went in, I decided to see it and hit it.”
Man-of-the-Match and slow left-armer Jadeja also took 3-20, with Ravichandran Ashwin taking 2-21.
Openers Gautam Gambhir and Yusuf Pathan both hit 25 at better than a run-a-ball to give Kolkata a solid start, but they, Eoin Morgan (2) and Jacques Kallis (0) were all dismissed – Kallis run-out without facing a ball – within nine runs.
Debabrata Das (19) and Manoj Tiwary (13) settled the nerves. The Knight Riders were 89-6 once they were dismissed and three quick wickets followed, with Sachithra Senanayake and Lakshmipathy Balaji eking out 16 runs in the final three overs to boost their total.
Mike Hussey top-scored with 40 in the visitors’ reply – off 51 balls – with the wickets shared around the Knight Riders bowlers and falling steadily.
The final six from Jadeja gave the Super Kings a final total of 124-6.
Chennai move up to third in the IPL table on eight points with the win, while the Knight Riders stay on four, third from bottom of the nine-team standings.
In the evening game, Royal Challengers Bangalore made light work of the Rajasthan Royals, beating their visitors by seven wickets and with 13 balls in hand.
The Challengers have been irresistible at home, and made an early impression by removing Shane Watson for 6 as Rajasthan batted first. Rahul Dravid (35) and Stuart Binny (31) provided the best contributions with the bat, but a total of 117 all out looked very light. Seamers RP Singh and Vinay Kumar both bagged three wickets.
Chris Gayle led the chase expertly, finishing unbeaten with a 44-ball 49, and with plenty of time and wickets to spare.
RCB are joint-leaders of the IPL, but have a superior net run rate to the Sunrisers Hyderabad. (Eurosport)
