Glitz & glamour attend launch of Sonia Noel’s ‘Making Style’ magazine

AN evening that served up a swirling melee of elaborately attired patrons of varying social influence ushered in the advent of what is projected to be the biggest lifestyle publication in the Caribbean. The ‘Makin Style’ magazine launched its premiere issue on Saturday, April 13, at the Herdmanston Lodge amongst a bevy of well-wishers, including prominent businessmen and industry experts.

The Master of Ceremonies was none other than the effervescent Negla Brandis, who took the guests through an evening that was nothing short of awe-inspiring. The magazine, in its first publication, highlighted the efforts, interest points and contributions of subject matter experts both here in the Caribbean and in the regional diaspora. It is best described as a melting pot of the Caribbean distinctions, methodologies, and approaches which signal the dawn of a global trend.

Richard Young, Editor and Creative Director, mentioned that Makin’ Style is about “creating an avenue, an outlet to express our very own characteristic approaches to life.”
Guest speakers included the recently elected President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited, Mr Clinton Urling, who praised the efforts of the publisher, Guyana’s Fashion Queen, Sonia Noel, stating that she is breaking barriers and doing things exactly the way she wants to.

Noel, in her address, declared, “I am so proud of my team and what we have achieved, and I look forward to building Makin’ Style TV and Radio in the near future. I also want to thank all those persons who have stuck by me and have believed in this institution.”

The publication is also set to be launched in St. Lucia on April 21st; at the Tobago Fashion Week in mid-May; in Atlanta, USA for Memorial Weekend, slated for the end of May; and in New York, USA on June 2nd as part of the festivities of the Caribbean Week in NY. The magazine will also go live in Grenada in mid-July. Copies will be available at major bookstores, supermarkets and gas stations around Georgetown, and also at the Community Pharmacy in Grove, EBD and at Williams Supermarket in Bartica, Region 7.

The magazine will be sold at Sonia Noel Designs on Barr Street, Kitty; Giftland OfficeMax, Germans Restaurant, Milady’s House of Beauty, Water Chris Hotel, Williams Supermarket (Bartica), Community Pharmacy (Grove, EBD) and at Gordon’s Stationery (in Berbice).

A part of the proceeds from the sale of this magazine will go to the Sonia Noel Foundation for the Creative Arts.
