FOOD and beverage giant Banks DIH Ltd is moving to enhance their production by installing a number of fermentation tanks, called Uni-Tanks outdoors, Communications Manager Mr. Troy Peters announced, noting that these tanks are now used worldwide.
He said that the intention of the company when the project of installing these Uni-Tanks began was to assist in energy conservation. The monstrous stainless steel tanks are quite visible to passersby at the Meadow Bank turn, East Bank Demerara.
Peters explained that the fermentation tanks were once used indoors as they had to be operated at a certain temperature but now that they have been modernised through advanced technology they can be used outdoors as their temperatures can be adjusted. He further stated that fermentation tanks are used to set the beer, a process known as laagering.
He said that the project began a few years ago and Banks DIH is being assisted by Krones, a German packaging and bottling machine manufacturer. Krones, he added, is the world’s leading manufacturer of lines for filling beverages in plastic and glass bottles or beverage cans.
In the meantime, the communications manager said he would not be able to say when the tanks will be ready for use but this will be sooner than a lot of persons expect.
And Banks is saying thanks, as Peters acknowledged the cooperation of the general public when the company had to be moving the large equipment across the roadways. He said that many commuters allowed them “passes” and showed tolerance as moving took quite some time.
