Three murders… : Crime Intelligence Unit working to crack cases : – Seelall Persaud

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud yesterday said that although they were not able to effect any arrests regarding the murder of domino enthusiast, Orin Joseph, the Crime Intelligence Unit is doing some work in an effort to crack the case. He added that so far, they are in receipt of some information and they are working along that line.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Joseph  was gunned down in front of his home at Lot 1222 Gaulding Place, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, on Sunday night during a power outage just after a domino competition had concluded.
The jewellery  Joseph was wearing was taken by two men on a motorcycle who fired a volley of bullets, one  of which struck him to the abdomen.
The man had briefly exited his yard and was about to retrieve his car to park it under his house when he was attacked by two men, who escaped  along  the  dark street.
Joseph, 52, was the President of the Blue Bird Domino Club and was killed at about 23:40 hours
Persaud said  that the man’s wife, Faye Joseph, heard explosions and when she went to enquire what had transpired she saw her mortally wounded husband lying on the road.
He said that Joseph was relieved of a gold chain and a gold band but no motive for the homicide has been established as yet.
The well-known businessman was conveyed to the Georgetown Public Hospital  (GPH) where he succumbed while receiving medical treatment.

GAUMONT HOTEL MURDER

In the case of  the  Gaumont Hotel murder in which 70-year-old Frederick Thomas of Friendship, East Coast Demerara, was stabbed to death, Crime Chief  Persaud said that the owner of the hotel and a female sex worker of the same business establishment are still in custody.
Thomas was found on the stairway of the Gaumont Hotel, High Street, Georgetown, with a stab wound to his chest at about 14:30 hours on April 15, 2013.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the GPH.
Initially, three women and two men were taken  into police custody.
So far, no motive for the homicide has been established. 

COVE  and JOHN KILLING

Meanwhile, in  the April 12, 2013 murder of Millicent Cummings, 89, of Cove and John,   East Coast Demerara, the crime chief said that the killing might have been orchestrated by a drug addict or addicts  and as the probe continues several persons were arrested and have been in police custody since Tuesday night.
He stated that several men who loiter in the area, are assisting the police at Cove and John Police Station with the investigations.
The battered and bloodied body of Cummings was found under a house at Cove and John last Friday.
A post-mortem performed on her  body by Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh gave the cause of death as  severe blunt trauma to the face.
She was bludgeoned to the face and reportedly sexually assaulted by a person or persons  unknown.
