Anna Regina Town Day discussion generates excitement and interest at IMC/business community meeting.

DISCUSSIONS on preparations for the Anna Regina Town Day in August have generated excitement and interest at the first Interim Management Committee/Business and Stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday at the Town Hall. Several business owners and stakeholders expressed excitement and anticipation at being involved in the first ever Town Day activity to be held in Region 2; and the region’s former vice-chairman, Mr. Heeralall Mohan, said the Town Day would spawn a tremendous set of other activities that would benefit residents.

He opined that the Town Day activity is very important, since it would put Anna Regina on the world map, and he called on all Essequibians, especially the youth, to come on board and support the first ever Town Day in Essequibo.

Town Clerk Ms. Diana Critchlow said the council had wanted to stage Town Day two years ago, but it never became a reality; and Chairman of the IMC, Mr. Toolsie Narine, said many persons who saw the news on the Internet about Town Day via the Chronicle newspapers overseas have called him and expressed their support for the activity, and have promised to come home for Town Day.

The Chairman said the IMC would be working assiduously to make Town Day a great success in Region 2. The business community has pledged to partner with the IMC to develop and beautify the town, and to stage Town Day.

Former MP, Mr. Isahack Basir, said the IMC should set up an album of historic sites at the Town Hall as part of Town Day activities; and businessman and owner of the Jaigobin Supermarket at Henrietta, Mr. Ganesh Jaigobin, in collaboration with a business company, has proposed to adopt the Anna Regina High Bridge so as to make it attractive for Anna Regina Town Day.
