Knight Riders fall short against Kings XI Punjab in IPL

KINGS XI Punjab won their second game in this year’s Indian Premier League, beating the Kolkata Knight Riders by four runs in Mohali Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir won the toss and put Kings XI Punjab in to bat. They made 157-9 off their 20 overs, with the visitors only able to score 153-9 in reply.
Kings XI opener Mandeep Singh, who made 41 from 30 balls, was ably assisted by Manpreet Gony’s 18-ball 42 from eighth in the order.
The other opener Adam Gilchrist could only score seven off 12 balls, with Australian compatriot David Hussey making 12 at four. Sunil Narine took 3-24 (for his first IPL hat-trick) and Jacques Kallis 3-33 for the Knight Riders.
Their innings began in inauspicious fashion when Manvinder Bisla was caught behind by Gilchrist off the bowling of Praveen Kumar first ball. Fellow opener Gautam Gambhir steadied the ship, making 60 in an hour off 39 balls, with England’s Eoin Morgan contributing 47 from four.
The Knight Riders needed eight runs to win from five balls – with Azhar Mahmood finishing with 3-21 at 5.25 – but fell short as Yusuf Pathan and Sachithra Senanayake both fell. First David Miller caught Pathan off Kumar then Senanayake was run-out on the penultimate ball.
Kings XI Punjab join the Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and Pune Warriors on four points, with Delhi Daredevils now four points adrift at the bottom of the table.(Eurosport)
