THE pre-feasibility study on a new Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) is expected to be complete and submitted to the Minister of Public Works, Mr. Robeson Benn by June 30, this year. Work on it is presently ongoing, with data being collected for the analysis, through which all the details will be compiled for later submission, that is to follow, based on the findings, the location and design.
The cost and tender for constructing the 2,250 meters long structure would then come on stream.
The new bridge has two proposed sites, one from Houston across to Versailles and the other crossing from New Hope to Patentia.
Either is to be of modern day models, constructed of reinforced concrete and boasting four lanes of 20 feet width for vehicular traffic, but including accommodation for cyclists and pedestrians.
The bridge is to have a 100 meters wide navigational clearance with aids, 25 meters of air draft with adequate marine collision protection in the navigation channel.
