Minister Manickchand explained that the policy is that children are entitled to a school closest to where they live, but there are allowances made for where parents are working far away from home; and in that case, parents can make an appeal to have their children placed in a school closest to where they work.
She further explained that, in that case, the placement is based on space availability, as the child is placed if there is space, but if none exists, the child can be placed in the next school that is closest to where he/she lives.
