Two men fined for trading obscene DVDs

MAHADEO Budhoo and Obert Watson (no addresses given) appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell yesterday and pleaded guilty to individual charges of trading obscene objects.

They admitted that, on Friday, April 5, in Water Street, Georgetown, they had obscene objects in their possession for the purpose of trade.
Budhoo said he is very sorry for what he did and it would not happen again. He claimed he only started the business four months ago but sells mainly DVDs.
Both defendants were fined $25,000 each with the alternative of six months imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Dwayne Smith (no address given either) pleaded not guilty to a similar charge in the same court.
Particulars of his offence said he had the obscene objects on Longden Street, also in the city.
But the defendant, 32, said the DVDs did not belong to him and he was overlooking them for someone, whom the police were able to contact.
Smith was granted $20,000 bail, pending his return to court on May 27.
