LOVE and Faith World Outreach Ministries in collaboration with the Ministry of Health yesterday conducted a medical outreach which benefitted hundreds of men, women and children from Sophia and neighbouring communities.
A Pentecostal Church, it is located at Lot 2, Upper Dennis Street, Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara, and it is pastored by Reverend Claude Brooks.
The outreach, which initially targeted primarily males, was well received and attracted close to 200 enthusiastic persons, many of whom were women and children, drawn from Sophia and neighbouring communities. The activity began at 09:00 hrs and lasted until around 15:30hrs.
Health services provided included dental care, cancer screening; eye testing, and HIV counselling and testing – all done free of charge to the people. By 14:00hrs at least 60 persons had already benefitted from dental care which included extractions and filling and cleaning of teeth.
In addition, Ministers of the Gospel were also available to minister the Love of Jesus Christ through prayer and spiritual counseling.
Meanwhile, persons wishing to have essential services that were not provided at yesterday’s outreach, were referred to the Sophia Health Centre. Those services include blood sugar testing and blood pressure testing.
Among members of the church playing a key part in yesterday’s programme were representatives of the porter services team, headed by Elder Marlon Barrow – a group of men with responsibility for maintenance activities, technical and otherwise, and putting things in place to ensure the smooth execution of the programme.
The group expressed gratitude to the members of the medical team and by extension the Ministry of Health for their cooperation and support towards making the initiative a success.
