JUNIOR Reid, 46, pleaded not guilty yesterday, to charges of unlawful assault and threatening behaviour in front of Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Particulars of the offences said, on April 4, in Waterloo Street, Georgetown, the defendant behaved in a threatening manner and unlawfully assaulted Michael Reid.
Police Corporal Renetta Bentham, prosecuting, said there was a disagreement between the defendant and the virtual complainant over the use of a lighted lamp to light a stove.
The prosecutor did not object to bail but requested that both Reids be placed on a bond.
The magistrate set surety at $25,000 each and the duo was bonded pending their return on April 19.
Before that, defence counsel Leslie Sobers informed the court that the defendant is the nephew of the other Reid and the former was a miner at Mahdia, Potaro but moved to Georgetown, six months ago, to take care of the virtual complainant’s house.
The lawyer said the incident occurred because of a difference in opinion as to where a lamp is safe or not and the defendant became annoyed and chucked his uncle.
Sobers requested pre-trial freedom and asked that, if the court is so minded, to bond both men.
