WEST INDIES cricketer Marlon Samuels has been named one of Wisden’s five cricketers of the year.
The right-handed batsman is the only West Indian on the list, alongside England’s Nick Compton and South African trio Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis and Dale Steyn.
A cricketer can only receive a Wisden nomination once in their career.
The cricketers of the year are nominated for their achievements in the previous English summer.
The 32-year-old led the West Indies to the 2012 ICC World Twenty20, with a man-of-the-match performance in the final.
Samuels scored 78 runs of 56 balls, as his team beat Sri Lanka by 36 runs.
