KEITH O’Jeer retained the President’s position when the Berbice Football Association (BFA) held its elections last Tuesday at the Association’s office at Main Street and Wapping Lane, New Amsterdam.
It was the second elections held within a month after the first one on March 16 was declared null and void by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and fresh elections ordered.
Once again financial irregularities were unearthed on Tuesday and the General Council agreed to set a date for a special meeting to bring the financial records of the BFA in good stead after it was not adopted. Financial statements for 2009 and 2012 were presented but not for 2010 and 2011.
Under O’Jeer the BFA received an undisclosed sum of money from the Regional Chairman of Region 6 to run a tournament in honour of the late Dr Cheddi Jagan but the tournament is still to be completed. Last Tuesday when questioned on the position of the tournament, the clubs learnt that more money is needed to facilitate the completion of the competition.
President of the Cougars FC, the oldest club in Berbice, and former national goalkeeper Phillip Carrington who challenged O’Jeer for the top and lost by a 6-4 margin has indicated his intentions to write the GFF concerning the financial irregularities.
All five member clubs of the BFA, Rosignol United, Cougars FC, New Amsterdam United, Corriverton Links and Monderrlust FC participated in the voting process, while affiliates Hope FC and Paradise Invaders attended the meeting as observers.
The other positions elected to run the football affairs in Berbice are: 1st Vice President Clay Flatts, 2nd Vice President Mark Adams, Secretary Joseph Simon, Treasurer Mike DeSouza, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Noel August and Development officer for Women football, Nyol August.
