Cameron looking to meet with President Ramotar ….says WICB will continue to stand with GCB

NEWLY elected president of  West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron yesterday told a media gathering, he is looking to have a meeting with  President Donald Ramotar, with regard to the issues surrounding the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB).
On the same note, the man who defeated former WICB president Sir Julian Hunte 7-5when the elections were held last week in Barbados said that

the WICB and its board of directors will continue to stand with the Dru Bahadur GCB.
Aaltddressing the local media in the Briefing Room of the Guyana National Stadium yesterday, following a near two hours meeting with the GCB, the 42 year old Cameron said he is pleased to be in Guyana and even more pleased that the game has returned to the Land of Many Waters.
“We have witnessed the successful staging of cricket here for one round each in the Regional 4Day and Super50. We look forward to the Super50 match and the next round of 4Day, concluding in similarly successful manner.
On behalf of the WICB, I wish to place on record our thanks to the Guyana Cricket Board for hosting matches on our behalf. I wish to thank the Government of Guyana as well for their efforts and contribution on ensuring that regional cricket has returned to Guyana,” said Cameron.
Looking at the situation in Guyana, Cameron said it has gone on for much longer than anyone would have desired, but called on all to put it behind and move forward as one united cricketing family.
“We must look to the future and commit our efforts towards moving Guyana’s and West Indies cricket forward. We are on the upward curve and need to ensure that we continue in this vein whilst building on those areas which need to be strengthened.
We must allow democracy to work and always respect the rulings of the courts where those apply, but I firmly believe that issues and differences which we will encounter ought not to always be embroiled in the courts, but rather we must sit at the table as valuable stakeholders and find compromise positions in the best interest of our sport,” posited Cameron.
He added, “Protracted and bitter disputes do not benefit cricket and we must avoid them by taking a mature and responsible path towards settling differences. The WICB has always stood firmly behind its member and shareholder the GCB and all decisions, taken in the past regarding the situation in Guyana were taken as decisions of the West Indies Cricket Board.
I am very much relieved to see that the GCB and the Government of Guyana found common ground to final resolution of outstanding issues. It is through this type of cooperation that the Guyanese public can once again enjoy Regional and International cricket on home soil.”
Cameron said he is looking forward to an inclusive approach with all stakeholders and plead for good sense in the best interest of cricket to prevail.
“I urge the governments, corporate sector, media and cricket loving public to hold us accountable but also lend us your support as we strive to build and develop our regional game,” stated Cameron.
In an invited comment, Honorary Secretary of the GCB Anand Sanasie who along with Bahadur was present at Cameron’s press briefing, said he was pleased with the way cricket is in Guyana at the moment, in comparison to two years ago.
