THE NEWLY formed Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL), along with some of its sponsors, will on April 20, 21 and 28 host a super 12-team 12/12 softball cricket tournament at the Everest Cricket Club ground, where a massive first-place prize of $600 000 and a trophy will go to the victorious team.
Teams such as Regal XI, Wolf Warriors, Memorex, Trophy Stall XI, Bartica Challengers, Speedboat XI just to name a few are expected to do battle for supremacy in this tournament which will be played on a round-robin basis, with a first come, first serve registration process being employed by the GSCL.
Entrance fee per team is $50 000 and the closing date for registration is April 16. The drawing of fixtures would take place two days later at Everest, when the tournament will be launched at 17:00hrs.
The second-place finishers will take home $200 000 and a trophy, Man-of-the-Match in the final takes home $10 000 and a trophy while the Best Batsman and Bowler-of-the-Tournament will each pocket $5 000 and a trophy. The prize for the Man-of-the-Series will be substantial and will be decided by the GSCL.
Teams are reminded that a list of 15 names must be submitted to the GSCL at the time of registration, while the GSCL will be supplying the playing conditions for the tournament which to date has received the blessings of several business entities in corporate Guyana.
Business entities such as Tony’s Variety Store, Five Star Minerals and Ryan and Reuben Mahadeo out of Bartica, Payless Variety Store and Romaine’s Car Wash along with several others just to name a few, have signalled their intentions to throw their support behind this tournament.
Admission to the venue on the playing dates is free and as a bonus, spectators who will crowd the venue to witness the action will be asked to participate in a raffle. Tickets cost $100 each and lucrative and attractive prizes will be up for grabs.
The first prize is a two-door refrigerator. A three-piece living room suite is up for grabs as the second prize, with the third-, fourth- and fifth-place winners of the raffle receiving one Sony Bravia LCD 32” television, a four-burner gas stove and one G-Shock bicycle respectively.
