A PARTNERSHIP FOR NATIONAL UNITY’S Richard Allen, yesterday had to be rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital after collapsing in Parliament during the budget debate.
The incident occurred just as Finance Minister, Dr Ashni Singh was attempting to clarify a point raised by APNU’S Volda Lawrence, who was at the time making her presentation to the debate.
The Guyana Chronicle was informed that Allen had been complaining about feeling unwell over the previous two days and had also been complaining of pains.
Allen had risen from his seat and immediately slumped on his colleague MP Chris Jones, before collapsing to the floor.
Several of the medical doctors in the House immediately rushed to the aid of the APNU Member, including Health Minister, Dr Bheri Ramsaran, APNU’S Dr George Norton, Minister Dr Jenifer Westford and PPP/C MP Dr Vishwa Mahadeo, among others.
An ambulance arrived several minutes later and Allen was immediately rushed to GPH, by which time he had regained consciousness, but was complaining of numbness.
Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition, David Granger subsequently informed media operatives that Allen had been taking over the counter drugs in relation to influenza.
According to Granger, he is not known to have suffered from any chronic ailments.
Richard Allen is a businessman from Port Kaituma, Region 1 and serves as parliamentary representative for the region on the APNU slate.
