HOSTS Guyana completed their first win in this year’s West Indies Cricket Board-organised Regional 4-Day competition at the Guyana National Stadium early yesterday afternoon, when they defeated Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) by 46 runs in their sixth round fixture.
Scores in the match: Guyana 231 and 175; CCC 167 and 193.
Guyana struck within the first half-hour
of the day’s play, when Veerasammy Permaul who ended with 4 for 22, knocked back the off stump of Akeem Dewar for 4, after the right-hander who was yet to score, began the day with Raymon Reifer who was on 22.
Devendra Bishoo replaced Permaul at the Pavilion End, started with a no-ball and later had Kevin McClean caught by Ronsford Beaton on the midwicket boundary, only to see the outstretched hands of umpire Nigel Duguid signalling another no-ball to the scorers.
When the rain stopped play at 11:25hrs, CCC were 155 for 7 off 66.3 overs with Reifer on 34 and McClean 17 and after lunch McClean greeted Paul Wintz into the attack, with an audacious drive through backward point for four.
The pair raised their 50-run partnership for the eighth wicket, when a lethargic-looking Narsingh Deonarine at slip, grassed an easy chance from Reifer who was on 41 at the time, off Jacobs, before he held the other offer off the next delivery in the same position.
Reifer’s resilient 43 (141b, 1×4) was quickly followed by Ryan Austin (1), who was lbw to Devendra Bishoo, leaving McClean and Kesrick Williams with the herculean task of resisting Guyana, which they failed to do.
The end came at 13:03hrs, when Bishoo held a skier that was offered by McClean at long on, as he looked to hit Permaul over that area, for 40 (88b, 1×4, 1×6), leaving Kesrick Williams unbeaten on 2, as the Guyanese completed their first win, with Assad Fudadin being named the Man-of-the-Match.
